[ An extended weekend away had been on the list for awhile, though circumstances never seemed to pan out. So, with the walls now being covered in everyone's rumors, she decided right now was the best time. She'd rented a campsite at the National Park and with the help of Eliot and Q, they'd warded and enchanted everything for maximum protection and some other creature comforts/accessibility that might not have been able to happen normally.
A paper airplane finds Steve early on the 4th with a note in Julia's handwriting --
Happiest of birthdays. I've set up a little scavenger hunt to lead you to where I am if you're interested in playing along. I promise it'll be worth it. If you hit a roadblock, write back for help on this note and fold it back up before throwing it into the wind.
- Julia
The scavenger hunt will have him pack a bag for warm weather, grab a lantern at her flower shop, grab a picnic basket from her house that's been enchanted to stay cold and is fully loaded with all sorts of goodies, and the last item is a map of the campground at the park with an X where she's set up and a time to arrive right before sunset. ]
[ He isn't expecting anything but to get ready for the party later today, and so he catches the plane with an odd look on his face, and a smile immediately spreads like melted frost in spring as he reads the note.
He packs up a bag as instructed, and goes to the flower shop to get the lantern, and gets a picnic basket. He does take a peek inside, and then heads over to the camp grounds with all the things, grin on his face as he sees Julia standing there waiting for him. ]
Hey.
[ He makes his way over, and as the sun sets and casts a halo around her hair, he places the things down and scoops her up into his arms to say hello. ]
[ The campsite and tent are modestly set-up but comfortable. There's a cake under a glass protective dome so it keeps, and a grate off to the side next to the fire pit for cooking. In the basket, among other things, there's also a loaf of bread that's more than it appears. ]
Happy Birthday.
[ Julia is dressed simply and for comfort in the heat, absolutely no complaints coming as he scoops her up. Kissing him, she takes her time to give him a proper welcome to the little camping area she'd set up. The light enchantments in the trees around them sparkle on their own with an almost gold hint of glitter to the naked eye due to how heavily they'd enchanted everything.
And if he had plans for the evening already, the perk of having this place reserved for a few days and still being so close to town made it easy enough to bounce back and forth between town and the campsite. ]
[ He's kind of blown away, actually, this is all really nice. It's much more than he'd expected today, and one of the most thoughtful gifts that he'd ever received. He's smiling ear to ear, and gives her a proper kiss, drawing her in, drinking from her lips, swallowing up the rest of the sunset. ]
Thank you.
[ He stays close, basking in this warmth they've managed to cultivate between them, not just in the moment but all days.
He feels so lucky, so blessed, like these days might be endless, like he might be able to see into forever. He supposes it helps that the recipient of his affections is a literal goddess, and he would think that even if she weren't. ]
[ Hair pulled back and resting over her shoulder because, hello, it's hot no matter the time of day, she greets him at the door with a friendly smile. She hadn't really expected him to want to come and deliver the fan on his birthday of all days but, then again, he certainly seems the type to go out of his way for others so, maybe she shouldn't be all that surprised. Held between her hands, however, is a box of chocolate chip cookies. Unopened. Holding them up to show, she purses her lips, a shrug of her shoulders. ]
It's not exactly a cake but, I figured I should give you something on your birthday of all days.
Chocolate chip? They're my favorite. Thank you, Jean.
[ He smiles wide, and then sort of tries to exchange the cookies for the fan in his hand. It's not a big fan, just a little one to put on the table. Kind of looks like it's from the 1950s. More clunk than fan. ]
[ Aka no telepathy used to figure that out. But with a smile on her lips, she does a little maneuvering herself with the exchange of the fan for the cookies when a thought touches her and she finds herself looking to Steve a little curiously. ]
You've been here for awhile. [ From what she recalls him telling her. ] I was wondering if you actually might be able to help me figure something out? [ Beat ] I got something in my basket and I'm not too sure what it is.
[Skye hurries over to meet him there, waiting outside the entrance and biting anxiously at her cuticles. If anyone can help her find Bucky, it’s Steve. He knows him better than anyone here. Including her.
Straightening up and pulling her hands away from her mouth when she sees Steve approach, Skye can barely contain her worry.]
Hey. Thanks for doing this if anyone knows Bucky, it’s you.
[ Better to ask someone she trusts than ask the masses over the Fluid. But she lets him in and carefully sets the fan down onto the couch as she slips into her bedroom on the first floor, only to return a moment later with this in her hand, filled with a black liquid that looks like ink. ]
[ The shift to being an official couple had swept over them like a tidal wave and she would blissfully ride it out and drown in everything it had to offer. The kiss is toe-curling levels of incredible and a reception she's already gotten very used to receiving and returning. Her fingers move up to trace his jaw lightly. ]
Of course, I'm glad you like it.
[ Not that she expected him to hate it, but it was a little over the top. Granted, that was also her style -- pouring everything into a task until every detail was covered. She tried to not flex the goddess card often, but that brief stint had taught her a lot about doing what she could, even small, to make a positive impact on someone else. She couldn't help everyone, but she could do something for the people around her. People she cared about and maybe even dipped into that L category. ]
Everything is warded so we shouldn't be disturbed by anything unwanted that's roaming around. [ Between the three of them, they'd basically made this location invisible. The power of two stabilizing gems. ]
I also hung up a sign on the shop closing it for the next few days for minimal interruptions.
